“You have breast cancer.” This life altering statement was certainly not what I expected to hear at the age of 37. Having a family history of breast cancer, I began having annual mammograms at the age of 30. However, it was performing a breast self exam(BSE) that led to the discovery of a lump on my left breast. An ultrasound confirmed that the lump was in fact breast cancer. My first thought was, “Who is going to take care of my family?”. My fear turned into faith, and it was my faith in God that carried me through the surgeries and chemotherapy that followed. Thirteen years later, at the age of 50, another BSE revealed a lump in my right breast. I was staring breast cancer in the face a second time; and again, it was my faith in God and the support of my family and friends that gave me the strength to persevere.

Born out of my second battle with breast cancer, The Woman in Pink originated as a vision to assist other women in their fight with cancer by providing wigs in a salon environment – free of charge. My dream is now a reality.
